Your Tasks

 

  • You engineer the DevOps for our web scraping and data engineering/science applications built on AWS
  • You automate infrastructure setup, including services, connectors, authentication, security
  • You ensure the automated operations, incl. CICD pipelines, monitoring, testing, and logging
  • You define architecture and make technology choices for our products and projects, while staying up to date on emerging technologies
  • You support the internal knowhow buildup, providing guidance for our more junior engineers

Your Profile

Experience

  • Academic degree in computer science, software engineering or informatics
  • Proven track record of automating and operating infrastructure for applications in AWS, with 4+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Experienced in Infrastructure-as-Code, in particular with Terraform, Terraform CDK, and AWS CloudFormation
  • Experienced in setting up CI/CD platforms, in particular GitHub (GitHub Actions)
  • Experienced in setting up and operating logging/monitoring solutions, in particular through log aggregation with AWS CloudWatch and New Relic
  • Designed and implemented scalable, secure, and performant applications, including automated setup and maintenance of infrastructure
  • Collaborated closely with software developers, ideally also data engineers, data scientists and data visualization experts
  • Appreciated: Published research papers or presented work at conferences
  • Appreciated: Experience with mentoring and leading junior engineers

Skills

  • Expert in AWS services for storage (S3, RDS Postgres), compute (EC2, ECS), network (VPC), data engineering (Glue Data Catalog, Athena)
  • Appreciated: Expert in AWS services for security (Security Hub), data science (SageMaker), authentication, APIs (API Gateway)
  • Expert with Infrastructure-as-Code: Terraform, Terraform CDK, AWS CloudFormation (familiarity with AWS CDK and AWS SAM appreciated)
  • Expert in cloud monitoring and log aggregation with AWS CloudWatch and New Relic
  • Expert in containerisation, for example able to write own docker-compose files (familiarity with alternative Docker runtimes appreciated)
  • Expert with message queue systems or task queues through Celery and AWS SQS
  • Strong in Linux and shell scripting (bash, zsh)
  • Expert in CI/CD and release management through GitHub/GitHub Actions (familiarity to GitHub alternatives appreciated)
  • Strong in Python, including knowledge of packet management through Poetry and appreciation for type hinting; ideally also TypeScript for Terraform CDK
  • Strong in databases with a focus on Postgres
  • Optionally, working knowledge of frontend fundamentals like JavaScript, HTML and CSS
  • Able to participate in architecture discussions and motivated to advise on and implement new architectures
  • Fluent in English and good intercultural communication skills
  • Pragmatism, solution orientation and analytical mindset
